SPYSHOTS: Range Rover Velar SVR spotted again

A hotter version of the Range Rover Velar has been spotted by our spy photographers pounding around the Nurburgring again, following its previous sighting at the same circuit last year. Here, the Velar SVR appears to be in the same state of camouflage as it was at its last ‘Ring outing.

Visually there is little to give away the SVR’s performance potential, or so it seems at first glance. The camouflaged mesh covers a pair of deep air scoops at either end of the bumper, bookending a similarly deepened intake in the middle.

To recap, the upcoming, high-performance version of the Velar has been tipped to receive the supercharged 5.0 litre V8 engine seen elsewhere in the Jaguar Land Rover line-up, which produces up to 567 hp and 700 Nm in the Jaguar F-Type SVR. A variation of the theme, therefore, can be expected here, and our spy photographers noted the unmistakeable noise of a V8 from the test mule.

The closest rival for the hot Velar comes from within the Jaguar Land Rover stable, in the form of an F-Pace SVR. As for the marketplace in which it will eventually compete, the Velar SVR will go up against the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, BMW X5 M and Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

Being a Land Rover product, the Velar SVR’s driveline can certainly be expected to have a requisite level of off-roading ability, and so its componentry shouldn’t deviate too far from existing SVR products, namely to feature an all-wheel drive setup with an eight-speed automatic drawing output from the engine, along with the marque’s Terrain Response suite of assistance systems.
